Kool Aid Shad -
Frozen Shad - Freezing
Shad
The formula Rick
posted on this board about
a year ago was one package of Kool-Aide (cherry flavored), no sugar,
half
strength on water.
The formula I
used and mine stored very
well, thawed tough as fresh shad, if not a bit tougher was, one package
Kool-Aide (cherry), no sugar, one quarter strength on water.
Placed my shad
in a vacuum pack, poured
in a very small amount of this kool-aid concentrate (because I knew the
vacuum pump would try to suck it in if I put too much), then stuffed a
pretty
thick rolled up paper towel in the end of the vacuum bag to contain as
much
of the kool-aid as possible, then set the vacuum sealer as close to the
counter edge as possible and let the bag of shad hang over and down
(again
to contain as much of the liquid as possible. The vacuum sealed and
froze.
Unlike MikeD's,
I did not contain mine
in enough liqid to make an ice cube. And, next time I will likely put
my
shad in a bucket, pour solution over them. Then pour solution off and
bag
the contents of the bucket. If you mix that Kool-aide as thick as I
suggest,
just dipping your shad in it is going to leave a coating on the bait,
making
it ready to freeze.
Hope this is
clear enough....Koz I'm never
typing this again.
