Redneck's Catfish Bait Soap is Old Fashioned
Lye Soap Catfish Bait for Fishing For Catfish. Lye Soap Bait has been used
for years for fishing for catfish. Soap as a catfish bait became common
during the depression when folks were dirt poor and relied on catching catfish
to feed their families.Somewhere down the line someone figured out that
soap worked as a catfish bait, but it's not just any soap that can be used
as a catfish bait, there are some very specific ingredients and processes
that must be used. People began using soap all over the south while fishing
for catfihs. They used some on trotlines, rod and reel and on limb lines
catfishing in lakes, rivers creeks and ponds, and were very sucessful using
soap as a catfish bait. The most commonly used soap for catfish baits were
homemade soaps, and a soap called P&G Soap (procter and Gamble Soap.
P&G Soap was the most commonly used
and most well known because it was available in grocery stores and everyone
had ready access to this soap for catfish bait. But as years passed P&G
changed recipes and gave in to big business and mass production and the
soap no longer worked as a catfish bait, and then they just completely went
out of business.

that were closely guarded family secrets throughout the years after P&G
soaps stopped being made and catfish bait soap was no longer readily available.

bait for jug fishing and trotlines, but it also works well on rod and reel,

stays on the hook so well. You simply take the block of catfihs bait soap
and cut it into chunks and stick the chunk onto a hook. There is molding
catfish bait balls or dealing with stinky messy catfish baits. Best of all,
the catfish bait soap goes on a straight shank hook, you don't have to use
a treble hook, or a spring hook or anything else to try and hold your bait
on the hook. The catfish bait soap goes on the hook easily and it stays

I set a 45 hook trotline at Lake Conroe.
On the original set I didn't have any cut bait I was planning to use so
I used Redneck's Catfish Bait Soap. The original intent was to rebait that
night with cut shad/perch, my choice wintertime bait, but the wind got up
and I was unable to run the lines until the following day. I ran the lines
and took off 22 channels and 2 nice blues, and rebaited with cut shad which
produced 16 fish. I next baited with live perch and took off 18 fish. On
this trip the Rednecks Soap out did my normal winter time bait. not to mention
that most of the hooks that didnt have fish on them we had to pull the soap
off. stayed on really well
I set out bank lines Saturday on the
Guadalupe River and tore the catfish up between 4pm and 12 midnight. Limited
out on blue's and channels with three yellow catfish. Then woke up around
5am and caught 37 more before calling it a day at 9am that morning. Great
days on the guadalupe river. I caught my biggest blue cat ever around 26
lbs and had three yellas going over 15 lbs with one over 20 lbs. Lots of
catfish. All caught on redneck's catfish bait soap and cut perch on r/r
or pvc pole bank lines. On 7/14 in the same area we fished from 1;30 to
4;00 and ended up with 14 channels and blues.
My fishing partner and I decided to
try juglines at Lake Lewisville for catfish., we made three jug lines and
went to set them out. On the way to the ramp my partner asks me what we
are going to bait them with. I showed him the Rednecks Catfish Bait Soap
and after he stopped laughing he bet me a case of beer that it would not
catch a thing. Being a non-believer, he picked up some shad and decided
we would bait the top hook with shad and the bottom with soap. The juglines
were in the water only 90 minutes due to incoming weather when we decided
to pick them up. Top hooks had one small blue cat less than 2 pounds. Bottom
hooks had one blue catfish at 4-1/2 pounds and one fine 14 pound catfish.
Being in late June 2003, it was hot and that beer sure tasted good.
